The “Draghi Plan” analysis and “Which Europe?”: our vision and proposals for a fairer Europe

The ‘Draghi Plan’ is not good for Europe, does not enhance its strengths, and promotes the kind of growth that neglects social and environmental justice. This assessment emerges from our extensive critical analysis of the ‘Draghi Plan’ strategy. As shown by the Mission Letters to the Commissioners-designate, the Plan has already deeply penetrated in the European agenda. ForumDD proposes instead to use it, before it is implemented, to promote a public, informed and open debate on the future of the Union. The document is the collaborative result of a group of experts from the ForumDD and reflects the ideas and proposals of the volume, ‘Which Europe’, now available in English edited by Elena Granaglia and Gloria Riva, published by Donzelli Editore

Following the Health for Common Good campaign that led to the inclusion of a European infrastructure for vaccines, medicines and biomedical innovation among the recommendations of the “Report COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learned and recommendations for the future”, voted by the European Parliament in July, Forum

The EU removes an independent study promoting a strong public drug initiative. The ForumDD reposted it: “Surprising fact, make clear what happened”

An independent study commissioned by the European Parliament in the context of the report on the reform of the EU pharmaceutical legislation, proposed by the Commission in recent months, was deleted from the institutional website three days after its publication. The study highlights the current drugs’ regulation and proposes a concrete options to solve some critical issues and in particular the current misalignment between the priorities of the pharmaceutical industry and public health objectives. The Report, which is currently scheduled for plenary discussion in the European Parliament on 11th of July, also calls for setting rules for transparency in the relationship with pharmaceutical companies and reforming HERA, the health emergency agency. It acknowledges the predominant role of the public in the development of Covid-19 vaccines, noting that this has not been matched by control over pricing and distribution. Contradictions exist in the Report, especially with respect to intellectual property rights
